Laura Pastor Announces Candidacy for Phoenix City
Council District 7

Phoenix, Arizona. August 7, 2007. Under a cloudy sky but no rain, Laura Pastor officially announced her
bid for Phoenix Council District # 7 seat in the upcoming September municipal elections. In a press
conference held at Phoenix City Hall in the Cesar Chavez Plaza, Pastor was surrounded by government
officials who endorse her run, including City of Phoenix Mayor Phil Gordon, Arizona State Attorney Terry
Goddard, and incumbent Councilman Doug Lingner.
Mayor Gordon highlighted Pastor’s engagement in the community since she was a child, as well as her
“background, integrity and hard work in the community.”
Pastor, a Phoenix native and mother of three, was especially thankful for the “support, hope and
patience” she has received from her family, friends and mentors.”
In announcing her candidacy, Pastor stressed her “commitment to education, public safety, and work for
the people of District 7 to strengthen and enhance our community.”
Laura Pastor acknowledged District 7 faces many unique issues. “I share with many of my fellow district
residents, however, deep concerns for the future of our dynamic community. As an actively involved and
aware citizen, I am profoundly aware of the most pressing challenges facing the people of my district.”
Among the most pressing issues of District 7, Pastor mentioned the “continuing need to work for
adequate transportation solutions, improved housing opportunities, and keeping our environment safe
and clean for future generations.”
Also running for District 7 is Michael Nowakowski, Radio Campesina's General Manager. Stephen
Molldrem, Communications Director for Nowakowski's campaign, announced also on Tuesday that the
candidate has received the United Farm Workers of America (UFW) and family members of Civil Rights
hero Cesar E. Chavez endorsement.
Among those in attendance at the press conference showing their support were also Pete García from
Chicanos por la Causa, Supervisor Mary Rose Wilcox, Sen. Richard Miranda, Reps. Steve Gallardo, Chad
Campbell, Robert Meza, David Lujan, Kyrsten Sinema. Henry Cotto, Pastor's wife and son Eduardo were
among family member attending the press conference.
